BRISBANE based Flight Lieutenant Matt Eastaway pauses when asked about the 80 children on board Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, carefree and laughing, excited to be en route to their summer holidays to the exotic east.
“Some of the coffins were much lighter than the others,” he says. “That was very, very hard. I can still see the 44 caskets on the floor, lying side by side — they took up the whole plane.”
His voice trails off. “44 caskets.”
